Commitment to Increase The Number of Fostering Households

In February this year, the Government has pledged its commitment to help increase the number of fostering households across England. There continues to be a shortage of foster carers with existing carers stopping fostering because of having a change of life circumstances, retiring, health difficulties or moving house.

The aim is to recruit 10,000 new fostering households by 2029, this is outlined in the Renewing Fostering action plan. There is additional funding and an initiative to create Regional Care Co-Operatives bringing Local Authorities to recruit foster carers and also share resources. Other plans include reviewing the current recruitment process and panel or checks process. It is however important to maintain standards and that safeguarding is a priority.

Beacon Fostering is committed to working in partnership with Local Authorities and new Regional Care Co-operatives. We hope the overall drive will raise the awareness of fostering further and bring new people into to become foster carers. Beacon Fostering is already working with Placements North West across North England including key local authorities such as Manchester, Lancashire, Liverpool, Blackpool, Wigan, Stockport and Bury.

Beacon Fostering is continuing to recruit fostering families across North West England as we aim to contribute and support the increased number of fostering households.
