Foster Carers Required to Support Teenagers in Stoke-On-Trent
There continues to be a shortage of foster carers across England and this includes locally in Stoke-on-Trent.
Children in care numbers for Stoke are at 1,094 (at December 2024) and the local authority has recently launched a fostering recruitment initiative targeted at supporting teenagers in July this year. This is a positive move and Beacon Fostering are keen to work in partnership with our local authorities and would like to promote this – including their Family Pathways scheme. Beacon Fostering is also recruiting foster carers locally in Stoke and we would aim to support young persons locally also.
There continues to be the continued drive to recruit foster carers because of experienced foster carers retiring, having a change in circumstances and the overall continued pressure on the cost of living.
Fostering teenagers is an important need to help young persons transition to independence and the next stage in their own personal development. Stability and support are key areas that foster carers can help with. This is through using their skills and knowledge from completing targeted training on managing challenging behaviour, emotions and trauma. For teenagers, it is helpful for them to have structure and feel well supported on their education and exploring their interests in sports, hobbies and other activities. We provide specific training on supporting teenagers and foster carers can also share experiences together through support groups.
If you are looking to become a foster carer locally in Stoke, please contact us and we can discuss your interest and also cover about options with your local authority. We are keen to promote fostering overall in Stoke and highlight the need for more foster carers. You can make a real difference here to young person for their future.
