Fostering Support Groups

Participation in support groups is a crucial aspect of the development of all Foster Carers.

You have the flexibility to join any group of your choice, including multiple groups. These sessions are conducted regularly on various days, allowing you to select the times that best fit your schedule. Meetings are available both in-person at various locations throughout the North West of England and online via Microsoft Teams or Zoom. Additionally, evening sessions are offered.

Support groups serve not only as a platform for exchanging perspectives, sharing insights, and learning from one another, but they also provide essential support from fellow carers. Furthermore, these groups present an opportunity to enhance your knowledge and skills. Each support group across the county has its unique focus, and it is vital for Foster Carers to shape the agenda based on the specific priorities of their group. In addition to this tailored agenda, there is a general framework that all support groups will address, which includes guest speakers.

Information regarding the current support groups can be found in the training catalogue.

Family & Friends Carers, as well as Disability Short Breaks Carers, have access to specialised support groups. For further information, please reach out to your Fostering Social Worker or Disability Fostering Social Worker. However, all carers are welcome to participate in the general support groups. Some carers have expressed a desire for assistance in organising informal support groups with other carers in their local communities.

If you are interested in initiating such a group, please first consult with your Fostering Social Worker. Attendance at support groups is expected of all Foster Carers.
