Personal development and training with Beacon Fostering

We place a high priority on the training and personal growth of every Beacon Fostering caregiver. An annual training plan that builds on your experience and knowledge and takes into account any additional training for various placement types or the behavior of children and young people will be agreed upon by you and us.

Your training will begin with Skills to Foster, a concentrated two-day course that introduces you to fostering, if you are new to the practice. Following approval, all foster caregivers will receive assistance in earning their “Training, Support, and Development” certificate during the first 12 months of fostering.

This includes the following types of care:

Protecting children and providing safer care

Assisting children who have experienced abuse or neglect

Self-worth and identity

Getting children ready for adulthood

First aid

Documents and their maintenance

Education for youth and children Keeping in touch

Protection of children

Handling difficult conduct

Safety and health

Beacon Therapeutic Training

You can continue your training to become Beacon Therapeutic Foster Carers after your first year with Beacon, or if you are already a seasoned caregiver. This will equip you with the skills and information necessary to assist kids or teens with special needs.

Examples of courses would be:

Handling interventions and placement breakdowns

Taking care of big sibling groups

Managing medications safely

CSE, or child sexual exploitation

Self-destructive actions

Additionally, you may receive assistance in obtaining particular certifications, such as the Level 3 Diploma in Therapeutic Parenting.
