The work of Children in Need to help disadvantaged children
Children in Need (CIN) supports projects for disadvantaged children up and down the country.
Children who are in foster care in Lancashire and other areas may benefit from the projects that CIN funds, which range from counselling, support groups or attending youth centres where they can meet children from similar backgrounds.
Here are some projects that we at Beacon Fostering believe may be useful to foster children in the North West.
Harmony Youth Project, Bolton
This scheme provides activities in youth work for youngsters in Bolton whose families have been affected by the cost of living crisis, helping to increase their confidence levels.
The Boathouse Youth, Blackpool
Another youth work oriented project, this organisation also helps young people from impoverished backgrounds, providing them with much needed life skills and a place where they can belong.
Become United, Rochdale
This organisation, run by people of colour in Greater Manchester, provides education support, delivering cultural and sporting events, as well as homework clubs, to create an inclusive environment where children of colour can express themselves. Despite only launching in June 2022, it’s aided over 1,000 people in developing their social, financial and professional skills.
Hook and Jab CIC, Warrington
Aimed at children and young people from Traveller communities and those who’ve experienced barriers in their educational journeys, this project gives them an alternative education and boxing instruction, enabling them to engage with learning and giving them the skills and knowledge they need to obtain employment in the future.
Achieve Change and Engagement, North Lancashire
Otherwise known as ACE, this charity works with children, teenagers and young adults (age range 10 to 25 years) who have had adverse childhood experiences that have affected their mental health and resilience.
