Understanding DBS Checks for Foster Parents
Fostering is essential because it offers a secure, caring home to children who are unable to remain with their biological relatives. A secure, caring foster family can greatly enhance the emotional and psychological welfare of foster children, many of whom experience trauma and uncertainty.
Foster homes help kids recover and flourish by providing them with support, direction, and a feeling of community. This blog explains the need for foster parents to have a DBS check as well as how to proceed.
What is a DBS Check?
One essential background check that aids in protecting children is a DBS check. It discloses any criminal convictions or pertinent details that could be dangerous.
These checks are required for foster parents since the fostering regulations mandate criminal background checks for all home members who are 18 years of age or older and for anyone applying to be a foster carer.
Which DBS is required for foster parents?
Fostering applicants must have an Enhanced DBS check with Barring. Other household members who are older than 18 are also included in this.

1. Complete the application Form: Fill out the DBS application which we will send to you with accurate details, including your identity and address history. This must be done with black ink

We ask for at least 3 forms of ID, Passport, Driving license and a council tax bill is preferred but Birth Certificates and bills which include your address, dated within the last three months are also suffice.
3. Submit your application: Your fostering agency will handle the submission to the DBS once your application is complete.
