What is Respite Fostering?
Respite fostering gives other foster parents or birth families a temporary, much-needed break. By becoming a respite foster carer, you enable a family to take advantage of a well-earned break, by watching over foster children for a few days or a week, usually on the weekends or during school breaks. There may be occasions where there are plans in place for this to be a regular occurrence with the same child every few weeks, or you could be providing respite care to multiple different children in this period.
What are the benefits of respite fostering?
- Allowing foster carers or parents to take a break.
- Offering assistance to foster families who require a little respite due to elevated stress levels.
- Each foster parent is unique, possessing unique abilities and attributes. A child or young person can have the opportunity for brief new experiences when they are placed with respite foster parents.
Being a respite foster carer is a really fulfilling and specialised career. By providing the child/young person with a home away from home, you’re enabling them to flourish.
