Child and Parental Wellbeing Tips for Foster Carers

What therapeutic support is available in foster care?

Children and young people in foster care are some of the most vulnerable members of society.

While foster carers can provide them with a loving, stable environment, having mentors is also important for them as well. Beacon Fostering also provides support for the foster carers through helplines, support groups and family events and trips. Here’s what you need to know.

24/7 support

At Beacon Fostering, we offer support in and out of hours for our foster carers, where they can talk to a staff member if they have any questions or concerns, and will receive regular support from social workers. Their carefully managed caseload guarantees that they will be able to answer any questions and fully support them and their foster child(ren).

Events and activities for young people

Children and young people are at the centre of Beacon Fostering’s focus, and we have various resources and activities available for them. We produce Children’s Guides, which carers can obtain by emailing us or talking to their social worker or staff at Beacon Fostering. There are also activities across the year, from games to walks and crafting activities.

A network of foster carers

Becoming a foster carer with Beacon Fostering means becoming part of a network of foster families – otherwise known as the Beacon Family – where people can gather together to share advice, tips and experiences.

Not only that, but carers also become a member of FosterTalk – an organisation comprised of foster carers, social workers and those involved in looking after the welfare of children and young people in need.
