What is parent and child fostering?
In some cases, a parent can need some extra support and guidance to raise their baby within a safe and secure environment.
To help, parent and child foster carers provide a positive, supervised and supportive living situation, where parents have time to develop the necessary skills required to act as positive role models throughout their child’s life.
The end goal of parent and child fostering is to provide both with a bright future. This specialised form of fostering was created to help make sure that the parent/parents and child can stay together.
Why do parents and their child need foster care?
A wide range of reasons exist why a parent and their child may need a fostering placement. For instance, they might require additional advice and support as a first-time parent. However, there may also be substantial concerns regarding a parent’s capacity to care for their child.
Some new parents may not have received a positive parenting experience within their own family, but through a mother and baby fostering placement, they are guided with support from a positive role model.
How long do parent and child foster placements last?
Usually short-term, parent and child fostering can last up to three months. This can differ however, depending on the requirements of the child and their parent.
Are there mother and baby fostering allowances?
Here in the UK, people providing foster care to a parent and child receive a specialised allowance with no tax payable. This payment is designed to cover the costs of their care.
Foster carers can also receive further support, sometimes like bonuses, respite care and discounts, that help them perform their role.
